Pre-Purchase Compatibility Guidance

Judge whether products or components are likely to work together before you buy.

What is this service?

Pre-Purchase Compatibility Guidance helps you evaluate, before you buy, whether products or components are likely to work together. It happens before a purchase, to help you avoid a costly mismatch.

This is advisory pre-purchase guidance. It does not include installation, troubleshooting, repair or technical support.

Examples

  • Whether components are likely to work together
  • Whether a device is likely to meet your requirements
  • Whether a monitor suits the ports on your computer
  • Whether accessories are likely to be compatible with a device
  • Whether memory or storage will fit
  • What compatibility considerations apply to a product

Compatibility problems are usually preventable with the right questions asked before purchase. A port that looks the same may not carry video, a charger may not deliver enough power, and a part may fit physically but not match your device's generation. We help you identify what to check, in the order that matters.

We can't confirm compatibility without full information, and only the manufacturer can ultimately confirm compatibility for its own products. We tell you what's likely, what's uncertain, and what to ask the seller or manufacturer to put in writing.

Who is it for?

  • People about to buy something that has to work with what they already own
  • Anyone considering an upgrade or an accessory and wanting to avoid a mismatch

What's included

  • A review of the model numbers and specifications you give us
  • The things to check: ports, standards, power and software requirements
  • An honest view of what is likely to work and what is uncertain
  • Questions to ask the seller or manufacturer to confirm, before you buy

What to tell us

The more of this you share in your request, the more useful the consultation will be:

  • The exact make and model of what you already own
  • The product you're considering
  • What you want them to do together

What's not included

  • Installation or set-up of any product
  • Troubleshooting or repair of a combination that isn't working
  • Technical support of any kind
  • A confirmation of compatibility. Only the manufacturer can confirm that for its own products

Independent service. Ask Buddy is an independent consultation and guidance service. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by third-party manufacturers, software companies, retailers, or service providers unless explicitly stated.

Pricing and process

Pricing depends on the scope of the consultation. A written scope and price are provided before payment. Sending a request doesn't cost anything and doesn't commit you. You pay once, after you accept the written scope and price and before the consultation. It's a one-time payment with no recurring charges. See Pricing and How It Works.

How to request this service

Send a request through the contact form, or email support@theaskbuddy.com. We review it, send a written scope and price if it fits, and nothing is charged unless you accept.
